Jim Dare, outdoorsman extraordinaire, adored father, brother, husband and friend, passed away on April 13, 2024. He spent his final years enjoying his retirement traveling the Lower 48 with his beloved wife Jeannine in their RV. He passed peacefully after a month of fighting an unexpected illness, with his sons at his side.
Born in Rochester, N.Y., Jim felt the call of Alaska in 1976 and began his quest for gold.
Jack-of-all-trades, master of most - Jim lived a life filled with wonder and adventure, always with a book in hand and never giving up. He worked amazing jobs and explored wild and beautiful places: Operations Commander of the Exxon Valdez oil spill clean-up was one of his favorites. Intelligent, skilled and driven, there was no job he couldn't do.
He worked hard and played harder, making friends everywhere he went. With the heart of a pirate and unquenchable wanderlust, Jim traveled the world, seeking treasure, stories and adventures.
Happiest by a roaring oceanside fire, spinning elaborate tales of his adventures and laughing with his family and buddies over a rum and coke, or out on the water with a rod in his hand, Jim lived his life to the fullest. His final request was to have his remains spread in the place he loved the most, the Alaska wilderness, knowing full well he would live on in our hearts, remembering his stories and the wisdom of the lessons he shared with his sons, family and friends.
Above all the things he loved, he treasured his family and friends most. His beautiful and kind wife Jeannine, with whom he spent 22 magical years; sons, Michael, James and Tyler; and granddaughter, Caroline were his greatest pride and joy.
Fish on Jim, you left a beautiful mark on this world and made more smiles than anybody could count. You will be missed and your memory cherished.
