Darryl Jordan, a beacon of strength and compassion in Alaska, passed away on May 23, 2024. He was a devoted husband, loving father and an inspirational leader whose impact spanned communities and generations.
Proud of his heritage as a member of the Kluti-Kaah Tribe, Darryl blazed trails for Alaska Native people through his remarkable achievements, including for a time leading his people as President of Ahtna. A graduate of MIT in civil engineering, he dedicated his career to public service and education. Serving on the Anchorage School Board and later as a beloved professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage, Darryl's passion for construction management enriched the lives of countless students, whom he loved to teach.
Beyond academia, Darryl was known for his infectious smile and boundless happiness. He approached every challenge with grace and optimism, inspiring those around him to persevere and excel, but most importantly, to have fun. Darryl touched hearts wherever he went, touching the lives of friends, colleagues, students and neighbors alike.
Darryl is survived by his cherished wife of 42 years, Cherie; adoring daughters, Lily and Nicki; sons-in-law, Tim and Kevin; loyal companion, Tonka; sisters, Connie, Diane and Donna; brothers, Robert and Mike; father, Frank; numerous nieces and nephews; and furgrand babies, Steeler, Teddy, Bluebell and Pinto.
In honoring Darryl's memory, his family invites friends and colleagues to celebrate his remarkable life and the impact he made on so many. Darryl's earthly presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to guide and inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him and his legacy of love, compassion and service will endure for generations to come.
