Robert Edward Clift Jr. was born on Aug. 12, 1945, in St. Louis, Mo., to Robert and Eunice Marianna (Campbell) Clift.
A scholar, who valued education, he received his A.A. in biology from the College of Sequoias, a B.A. in education and a master's in education from the University of Arizona, along with many certifications and diplomas.
He was a proud U.S. Army Veteran, doing two tours in Vietnam, and serving in the Reserves. Rob spent more than 20 years in education and inspiring students as a teacher in many different locations in Alaska. He was a member of Congregation Beth Sholom, a licensed pilot and a delegate and board member for the Alaska Libertarian Party, who enjoyed guns and gunsmithing, aviation, archery, bicycling and history.
Rob was a wonderful and devoted husband, father, grandfather and reliable leader and friend to everyone he met along his journey. He spent many years living in Arkansas, California, Arizona, Colorado, and 45 years in Alaska. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bicycling. He was an avid reader and historian, most often seen with a book and a pipeful of tobacco. Rob had a brand new bicycle and was planning to go on his usual 12-mile bike trip on a beautiful Alaska day, when he suddenly passed. He will be terribly missed.
Rob is survived by his loving wife, Care Clift; daughter, Bruck Ann Clift and husband Nicholas Braman; son, Daniel Clift and husband James Brown III; brothers, Steven, Paul and Tracy Clift and their families; and nine grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his son, Ian Campbell Clift; and nephew, Chad Clift.
