It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Karrold Deanne Jackson, who left us on July 31, 2024, at the age of 85. Born in Detroit, Mich., Karrold was a bright light in her community from the very beginning. She attended Cass Tech High School, where she began to carve out the impressive path she would follow throughout her life.
Karrold's greatest joy was undoubtedly her family. She married the love of her life, Robert Donald Jackson, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage, blessed with an eternal love. In that nurturing atmosphere, they raised four children - Shaaron Donna Jackson, Jeffery Darrold Jackson, Kelly Dayle Jackson and Erin Jackson-Hill - all of whom reside in Anchorage, Alaska. Her family was her proudest achievement, and she leaves behind not only her children but also her cherished grandchildren - Shavon, James, Sayuri and Craig - as well as great-grandchildren and countless others whom she embraced as her own.
After dedicating many years as a stay-at-home mom, Karrold embarked on a distinguished career with the Federal government, culminating at the Alaska Court System. There, she broke barriers and made history by becoming the first Black female Personnel Director in the state of Alaska. Karrold's professional achievements were numerous, but it was her giving and generous soul, her acerbic wit and her quick tongue that endeared her to so many.
True to her nature, Karrold requested no memorial service, believing that she was celebrated in life. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Karrold D. Jackson Social Justice Library being established in her honor.
Karrold Deanne Jackson will be deeply missed but remembered with love and admiration by all who knew her.
