Kay Shook, born on July 16, 1940, in Sarona, Wis., passed away peacefully on July 25, 2024. Kay was the beloved daughter of Lewis and Iris Meacham, and sister to James "Bob," Francis "Fritz," Lyman and John.
Kay earned her teaching degree and master's degree from the University of Wisconsin and dedicated her life to education. In 1967, she moved to Alaska, where she made a significant impact as an educator.
She married Norman Sarazin and was widowed in 1975. Despite this early loss, Kay's resilience and dedication to her family remained steadfast. She is survived by her three loving daughters: Michelle Wilson, Petina James and Tawnya Sarazin.
On June 14, 1997, Kay found love again and married Richard Shook. In 2000, they moved from Anchorage to Sterling, Alaska, on the Kenai River, where they enjoyed the beauty of nature together. In 2013, Kay and Richard relocated from Alaska to Washington.
Kay was a proud grandmother to six grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. She cherished spending time with them, sharing her love of fishing, nature, crafting, teaching and baking. As accomplished master gardener, she brought beauty to every place she lived.
Kay's dedication to education was recognized with two Presidential Educational Awards. She was an active member of the Audubon Society and Ducks Unlimited, reflecting her deep commitment to wildlife conservation. A devoted Green Bay Packers fan, Kay's spirit and enthusiasm for life were evident in all she did.
Kay will be remembered for her warmth, dedication and the love she shared with her family and community. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and all the lives she touched.
