Frederick George Christoffersen, 72 years old, of Valdez, entered into eternal rest on Aug. 6, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Fred was born on Jan. 28, 1952, in Fairbanks, Alaska, to Thelma Barnum and Kenneth Edwin Christoffersen. Fred survived three days in old town Valdez during the 1964 earthquake, an amazing feat for a 12-year-old young man.
Fred attended school, kindergarten through 12th grade, in Valdez. He joined the United States Navy, serving proudly and honorably during the Vietnam War from 1970 to 1974. He was stationed VT-3 (Training Squadron 3) at Whiting Field in Milton, Fla., as an Aviation Machinists Mate/Aircraft Mechanic. After his service. Fred returned to his hometown of Valdez. Fred loved his family and worked hard to care and support them. He knew what had to be done and put them first.
Fred married Susan Alice Peirson on Dec. 29, 1987. Susan and Fred were excited to start their new life together. Their first born, Jason, arrived on Dec. 18, 1985. The twins, Audrey and Andre arrived on Dec. 31, 1987.
Jason and his wife Aly gave Fred and Susan four beautiful grandchildren: Ellie, Gunnar, Sable and Thorin.
Fred loved deep sea fishing and visiting family and friends. He could tell the best jokes and stories.
Fred was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth; and mother, Thelma. He is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Jason and wife Aly and their four children: son, Andre; daughter, Audrey; sisters, Carol, Jessie, Brenda, Glenna and Christine; and brothers, Danny, Kenneth and Timmy.
Services will be held on Sept. 7, 2024, from 1-4 p.m., at the Valdez Convention and Civic Center, with a graveside service and 21-gun salute immediately following. Pastor Michael Sims will officiate. Fred and his mother will be laid to rest together in the family plot. All are welcome to join with family and friends at the Wheel House Bar, Best Western after the service.
