James William Allen, 72, of Anchorage, Alaska, passed away on Aug. 26, 2024, at his beloved family cabin in Ninilchik, Alaska. James was born in Pahokee, Fla., on Dec. 3, 1951, to Fanny Lofton and Louie Allen. He was one of six kids: Louie Jr., Ruth, Rose, Florence and Shirley. James, known to railroaders as Jimmy, worked for the Alaska Railroad from 1973 to 2011.

James was always eager to spend time in the Alaska wilderness, going hunting and fishing. Everywhere he went, he made friends with his neighbors, coworkers and people he met along the trails. He will be missed by many.

James is preceded in death by his parents, Fanny Lofton and Louie Allen; sister, Shirley Durman; brother, Louie Allen Jr.; and grandson, Kejuan Stinson. James is survived by many loved ones: his wife, Emma Allen; daughters, Melissa Allen, Sarah Allen and Cheryl Burse Smith; son, John Allen; sisters, Ruth Jefferson, Rose Jefferson and Florence Coke; and granddaughter, Chassidy Stinson; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.

James's Memorial Service will be on Sept. 11, 2024, at 3:30 p.m., at St. Patrick's Parish, 2111 Muldoon Road in Anchorage, with Celebration of Life to follow.
