Fielder George Dowding

Fielder George Dowding was a social creature and loving father. He was born in Chicago, Ill., where he grew up as a boy scout, played in school bands and later received his degree in electrical engineering from University of Illinois. He served his country, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Air Force in the field of communications. He gained his HAM radio license (KL7FHX) in 1964, and was a lifetime member of American Radio Relay League. He loved music, cooking and learning new things, including: playing bagpipes in the Alaska Highlanders band and learning German, Greek and computer languages. He was a Linux enthusiast.
He lived in Anchorage, Alaska, for 40 years and retired to Texas. He attended church on Sundays and Thursdays and crocheted prayer shawls for the congregation. He achieved 44 years of sobriety and helped others with alcohol addiction during that time.
He leaves his three children: Elizabeth McKeefer, George Dowding and Rebecca Dowding. He will be missed.
His memorial service will be held at St. Francis Anglican Church in Austin, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2024, at 1 p.m. CST. For those unable to attend, the service will be streamed on the church's website: https://www.stfrancisaustin.org/.
