Jack Phillip Hertz

Jun 28, 1962 -

Sep 19, 2024

Lifelong Alaskan Jack Phillip Hertz, 62, died peacefully at his home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Sept. 19, 2024. Jack was born in Anchorage on June 28, 1962, to his parents Richard P. Hertz and Margie L. Hertz and his sister Rhonda.

Jack could often be found at the family's Nancy Lake cabin. Strong friendships grew when Jack and his friends gathered around campfires at the lake. Laughter, repeated stories, crazy ideas and dreams were shared there. In addition, Jack was an avid reader; he wasn't to be disturbed if he had the newest Clive Cussler or Tom Clancy book.

Jack loved to serve home cooked meals and Kona Longboard beer to friends. Technology wasn't his friend, but fortunately Jack had friends who patiently assured him he hadn't broken his phone or TV. He willingly gave advice starting with "Here's what you should do…" Jack could be a bit cankerous or stubborn at times, but his heart was always in the right place.

Jack's parents; sister; and aunt, Margie Wien-Smith, predeceased him, as did his beloved dog, Denali. He is survived by his stepmother, Betty Hertz; his "campfire" buddies; and his family of friends.

A gathering of friends to honor his memory will take place around a campfire on Oct. 19, 2024. In addition, a memorial service will be held on Nov. 2, 2024, at 11 a.m., at St. John United Methodist Church, 1801 O' Malley Road in Anchorage.

Memorial donations be made in Jack's name to Friends of Pets, P.O. Box 240981, Anchorage, AK 99524, or your favorite charity.

Arrangements by Cremation Society of Alaska.
