Nov 19, 2024

Born in Pittsburgh to Kathryn "Kitty" and Dr. George Dorman, George, known as Eddie in his youth, developed a love for horses and aviation early on. After graduating from Emporium High School in 1954, he joined the US Air Force, where he met his wife, Captain Dorothy Connolly, while teaching her to fly.

Following his service, George's adventurous spirit led him to Alaska, where he attended the University of Fairbanks before earning an Electrical Engineering degree from Penn State. This led to a successful career with Schlumberger, taking him and his family around the world before returning to Alaska. George also worked at Gearhart, FS Air Service, and True Value.

An avid aviator, George built planes, volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol, and was an active member of the Alaska Aviation Museum. He was known for telling stories, his sense of humor, his Irish coffees, handyman skills, being the voice of reason, and love of dogs. He was a regular at local restaurants and even appeared in the film "Big Miracle."

George was a devoted husband to his late wife, Dorothy and a loving father to Bill, Patrick (Kim Jaime), and Connie (Mark Greenlee). He cherished his grandchildren, Svea, Jack, and Charlie, and is survived by extended family in Ohio, Texas, New York and Hawaii.

George will be deeply missed. A celebration of his life will be held at the Alaska Aviation Museum on January 10th.
