Dec 2, 2024
Janette Lucile White (Acree) died peacefully surrounded by family and loved ones on the evening of Dec. 2, 2024, in Anchorage, Alaska.
Janette "Janny" was born in Hermosa Beach, Calif., on May 3, 1948, to Wilbur and Evelyn Acree. Janny grew up in Hermosa Beach with seven siblings in the Acree household. She attended Bishop Montgomery and then Redondo Beach Union High School, graduating in spring 1966. While at Redondo Union Janny met and fell in love with Jim White. Janny and Jim would marry on Feb. 10, 1968, and have two sons, Joe and Mike.
Jim was in the construction business and the family moved from Southern California to Northern California and eventually to new opportunities in Anchorage in 1976. Janny spent her time as a homemaker and when the kids were old enough went to work as a receptionist and expeditor in the family's construction business. After retiring from the construction business, Janny and Jim became small business owners when they purchased a local gym called Alaska Fitness. Janny got to know many people around Anchorage while running supplies for the construction company and working at the gym. Everyone knew her and she was loved by all.
Janny's granddaughter described her Nana as, "So loved, so strong and always brought love and laughter to any room." Janny's sister says, "Janny's laughter was contagious, it came from her heart, she was silly, hilarious and most of all she truly had a heart of gold."
Janny enjoyed spending most of her time with her husband Jim and traveling. She also loved being a grandma and enjoyed every minute when she was surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
Janny is survived by her husband, Jim; son, Mike; son, Joe (Holly); granddaughters, Rachel (Dallas), Haley (Hristos) and Lauren; great-granddaughter, Aria; great-grandson, Luka; sisters, Marie, Kathy and Louise (Steve); brothers, Bob (Joyce) and Jack (Barbara); and a long list of nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws. Janny was preceded in death by her parents; and brothers, Tim and Marty.
A Mass of Resurrection with reception to follow will be held on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, at 2 p.m., at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in Anchorage.
