Dec 14, 2024
Shawn Lynn George, 63, died at home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, after battling cancer for the past year-and-a-half.
Shawn was born on April 10, 1961, in Great falls, Mont., to Norman and Marion George. He was the fifth of 11 children. His family moved from Montana to Alaska in 1963.
After graduating from East Anchorage High School in 1979, Shawn spent the next 45 years working in Anchorage as an automobile mechanic. He started at European Motors as an apprentice mechanic and went on to become a Master Technician for Saab. Shawn worked at Morrison Auto next and achieved Master Technician for Audi and VW, and was the Service Department Manager for over 10 years. Shawn finished his career at the Anchorage School District as the Lead Supervisor for the bus garage until his retirement in November.
Shawn loved Alaska and the outdoors and enjoyed spending time at the family's Crystal Lake cabin, riding snow machines and four-wheelers, or just paddling around the lake in the canoe. He also loved watching his children's sporting events, whether it was his son's football games or his daughter's softball games. Shawn was always willing to lend a hand to help repair family or friends cars or to help them with a home improvement project. He could often be found in his garage working alongside his brother, Wade, on one of their many project cars.
Shawn was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Marion George; brothers, Alan and Ty; sister, Ava Ellison; nephew, Jeremy Watson; and nephew, Trevor Reagan.
Shawn is survived by his wife of 41 years, Martha (Reynolds); daughter, Katherine Pendragon of Anchorage; son, Shawn (Juliet) and grandson, Nico of Mountain View, Calif.; brothers, Wade George (Debbie) of Anchorage, Robert Reagan (Sherry) of Anchorage, and Rod George (Maia) of Seattle, Wash.; sisters, Gwyn Ackerman (Dennis) of Anchorage, Dawn Broquet (Bruce) of Levering, Mich., Christie Wilcheck (Jeffrey) of Anchorage, and Camelot George of Anchorage; and many nieces and nephews and their children.
Shawn's family would like to send their thanks and appreciation for the kindness and compassion shown to Shawn throughout his illness to Katmai Oncology, Ancora Home Health and Hospice, and the Alaska Regional Hospital Emergency Room staff and physicians.
Funeral services for Shawn will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 2627 Lore Road in Anchorage. A reception will follow at 12 p.m., for family and friends at Shawn and Martha's home in Anchorage.
