David Marvin Dreyer

Jul 4, 1959 -

Dec 20, 2024

David Marvin Dreyer passed away suddenly in Coeur D'Alene, Idaho, while visiting a son on Dec. 20, 2024. At the time he was bravely pursuing options battling familial amyloidosis. He was born on July 4, 1959, in Seattle, Wash., son of parents Edwin Holger Dreyer (1919-2006) and Elaine Jeanette Dreyer (nee Howland, 1923-1990).

Dave is survived by his four sons, Marvin Edwin Dreyer, Cole Hampton Dreyer (Alisha), Nolan Thomas Dreyer and Dylan Robert Dreyer; two brothers, Robert Palmer Dreyer (wife Kim) and Kenneth Lane Dreyer (wife Nancy); two grandchildren, Audrina and Damien; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Dave was predeceased by his wife, Carol Dreyer (Anacker); and two brothers, William Edwin Dreyer (wife Jeri, deceased) and Thomas Holger Dreyer (wife Vicky, deceased; wife Beth).

Although Dave was born in Seattle, it wasn't long before the whole family packed their bags and moved to Anchorage, Alaska, in fall 1965. From then on, except for overseas work locations, Anchorage and Wasilla, Alaska, are where Dave grew up, raised a family, worked and lived.

Dave graduated from East High in 1977, and participated and competed in numerous sports, but was best at alpine skiing, baseball and bowling.

In his younger working years, Dave tried his hand at landscaping and refrigeration technology, but finally wound up becoming a professional land surveyor, working at one time with all four of his brothers at Lantech Surveys in Anchorage. Dave was also well known for his considerable construction surveying skills and spent about the last 10 years working mostly overseas in China, Russia and South Korea. His main job was running survey crews that performed quality controls to ensure that when giant oil field modules were shipped around the world, all the parts would line up to the couple of millimeter level. He was really good at that. That said, Dave was probably most proud about being a youth baseball coach for many years and watching his four boys grow up.

Son Cole said: "He did so much for my family and me there was so many times he could've gave up but he never did, and he made me the man I am today. He was the greatest father I could ever ask for. He also got to meet his grandbabies, Audrina and Damien, which he will always love forever. Love you, daddo."

All who knew him will miss him very much.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
