Adriana Perez Brooks

Adriana Perez Brooks, age 82, died peacefully at her home in Anchorage, Alaska, on Jan. 28, 2025, after a brief struggle with cranial metastatic disease. She was born Irma Adriana Perez Rodriguez in Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, to Jose Perez Salas and Luz Rodriguez de Perez. Moving to Anchorage in 1974, with husband Lonnie D. Brooks, she immediately went to work teaching math at Dimond Mears. She taught math in the Anchorage School District until her retirement in June 1998.

Adriana and Lonnie met in El Paso, Texas, where she was teaching at Henderson Junior High when Lonnie, serving a two-year draft hitch in the Army, got posted to White Sands Missile Range as an electrical engineer in 1964. They were married on Jan. 15, 1966, the day after Lonnie was released from military service.

Prior to coming to Anchorage in 1974, Adriana and Lonnie lived in many locations, as is common in the oil industry in which Lonnie worked. The day after their wedding they moved to Dallas, Texas; six months later to Los Angeles, Calif.; four years later to Houston, Texas; and a year and a half later back to Los Angeles; followed in six months by moving to Calgary, Alberta. Calgary was followed by their move to Anchorage, which was home for Adriana until her death.

Adriana enjoyed hiking, camping and managing the family's financial affairs. She, with Lonnie, was a member of Anchorage's St. John United Methodist Church. The family encourages donations to the church of choice of anyone who wants to acknowledge Adriana with a memorial gift.

Adriana is survived by husband, Lonnie; and by sisters, Diana V. Reeve of Las Vegas, Nev., and Norma A. Alvarez of El Paso. She and Lonnie have no children of their own, but love and appreciate their nieces and nephews.
