Carolyn "Care" Jane Tuk (Sept. 8, 1954 – Mar. 29, 2025) passed away in the presence of family friend Mary Casey, and under the tender, professional care of the nursing staff and aides of Matsu Regional Hospital in Palmer, Alaska.
Nicknamed "The Bionic Woman" after her total knee and shoulder replacements and lumbar and cervical fusions, she is now free from pain and reunited with her husband Bill and daughter, Jamie.
For 50 years she bravely battled the health effects of the anti-miscarriage drug DES, which began with her first cancer diagnosis at the age of 19 and culminated in her end-of-life journey at Matsu Regional under the care of Ancora hospice. She built a career and forged a legacy through her health issues, becoming an occupational therapist, advocating for cancer survivors, and raising awareness and piloting solutions in the growing field of disability awareness.
Her legacy, while hard to put into words, was indeed put into words as she completed two memoirs, fulfilling a dream of hers to become an author. She leaves behind her son, Tim; son-in-law, Jeff Casey; and grandkids. Scott and Samantha. Care also leaves behind her siblings, DeeDee, Patti, Bob and their families.
She lived her life with simple mottos that guided her steps: "Never Quit," and "No Regrets." Her faith in God was anchored by the simple teachings found in the Book of Matthew, verses 6:25-34.
In accordance with her wishes, she will be cremated by Valley Funeral Home in Wasilla, Alaska. It will be a private cremation, but plans are underway for a celebration of life later this summer. For details about her celebration of life as they become available, please email care@caretuk.com.
