Ronald Bernard McCoy

Feb 14, 1942 -

Apr 14, 2025

Ronald B. McCoy died at home in Lakewood, Colo., at the age of 83, on April 14, 2025, after a two month hospitalization and almost three weeks in hospice care, due to a slip on the ice on Jan. 28, 2025. He had suffered some years with Alzheimer's.

Ron was born on Valentine's Day 1942 in South Milwaukee, Wis. He graduated from Oak Creek High School, Oak Creek, Wis., and with a Bachelor of Science degree in natural resources from Oregon State University. He retired in late 2012, as long time Coordinator, and institutional memory, of the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of the Interior, Anchorage, Alaska, with a top grade level GM 15 and a total of 47 years with the federal government. He had held positions in Oregon, Washington and Idaho - and finally, as head of the Job Corps Center in Ogden, Utah, before moving his family to Alaska in 1977.

Ron was a lifelong, practicing Roman Catholic - altar boy and president of his Catholic fraternity, Phi Theta Kappa at OSU. He will be remembered as a gregarious, guileless, generous family man and friend, who loved staying in touch with extended, faraway family and friends. He was proud of his Czech heritage on his dad's side. Having lived 44 years in his beloved and majestic Alaska, he especially enjoyed fishing and sightseeing opportunities many times over with his many visitors "from outside." But perhaps most of all Ron relished the time he spent caring for his Anchorage property.

Ron is survived by his wife of 20 years, Janet McCord Carroll; five children, Timothy McCoy, Kimberly Williams (Daniel), Todd McCoy (Jennifer), Scott McCoy and Brian McCoy (Joanna); their mother, his first wife, Mary Ellen Wilson; and seven grandchildren. He also leaves a stepdaughter and stepson, Colleen Palmer (Dale) and Sean Carroll (Stephanie); nine stepgrandchildren; plus the greats; and three McCoy nephews, Kevin, Michael and Isaac. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley McCoy and Florence Schaeffler; brothers, Stanley Paul McCoy and Gerald A. McCoy; and stepdaughter, Karen Bradley.

Remembrances may be made to Bishop Gallegos Maternity Home, P.O. Box 221155, Sacramento, CA 95822, or Autism Speaks, P.O. Box 37148, Boone, IA 50037-0148.
