Longtime Alaska resident Arnie Geiger, 81, died in Anchorage, Alaska, surrounded by his family.
Arnie was born in Wausau, Wis., to Aloysious Geiger and Margaret (nee Pupp) Geiger. It was in Wausau in 1963, where Arnie married his longtime sweetheart, Theresa (nee Czechowicz) Geiger, his beloved wife, until she preceded him in death in 2012.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stout in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in industrial education.
In 1965, Arnie accepted a teaching job for the Anchorage School District. He began at West High School, transferred to East High School, and taught industrial arts until his retirement in 1987.
Arnie and Theresa lived in a modest dwelling in Mt. View while building their house on the Anchorage hillside. In 1969, they moved into their newly built home and resided there for the remainder of their lives. They also cherished their time at their remote cabins and embraced wild Alaska adventures throughout the state.
In retirement from teaching, Arnie focused on his woodturning business, Sourdough Whittle Hut, and remained passionate about it until the day he died. He was a skilled and talented artist who took great delight in sharing his craft and was highly regarded by his peers. As part of his business, he traveled the state of Alaska tuning woodworking equipment for school districts and businesses.
Arnie donated his time and talents throughout Alaska as a volunteer at the state fair, Bean's Cafe Empty Bowl project and through his membership in the Anchorage Lion's Club.
Arnie was a longtime member of the Alaska Creative Woodworking Association and the Alaska Woodturners Association.
Arnie is survived by his son, Richard Geiger (Kathy Robinson); granddaughter, Gwyneth Geiger; brothers, Adrian and Edward Geiger; and his extended family and friends.
There will be a celebration of life - where food will be served - at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2025. Should you choose to attend the graveside service, it will be held at 10 a.m. Both ceremonies will be located at Angelus Memorial Park, 440 East Klatt Road, Anchorage, AK 99515.
