Robert Emmett "Nawgyee" Miller

Robert Emmett "Nawgyee" Miller, 68, of Ocean View, Kona, Hawaii, passed away on June 3, 2025, in his beloved state of Hawaii.

Robert Emmett Miller, was born March 12, 1957, to Gertie and Walt Miller in Nome, Alaska. Rob was their second child. Robert attended Service-Hanshew in Anchorage, Alaska, and played varsity hockey and track; one year he was the President of the Letterman's Club. In 1972, he took State in the mile run during the 7th grade. Rob would have been part of the class of 1976, but in 1975 Robert opted to graduate early to join the IBEW Local 1547 and work on the North Slope in the early days of the pipeline as an apprentice. Robert became a Journeyman when he was 21. In 1987, Rob was in a work related transportation accident and in 2005, he retired, at the age of 48, to move to Hawaii, where he built a home that he has lived in for three decades.

In 1981, Robert married Ruth Soloman of Goodnews Bay, Alaska, for 14 years. Ruth died of cancer in Havre Mt. Robert loved boating and sportfishing. In his boat, Quyana, he had over 700 recorded sports fishing days. He loved being on water. Robert enjoyed music and was a Deadhead who attended over 70 concerts.

In 2017, Robert came down with heart failure and survived a heart operation. On June 3, 2025, Robert passed away from health related heart failure. Robert is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth; parents, Norman Daywalt (Walt) Miller Sr. and Gertrude (Miller) Ah'Nee; siblings, William James Miller, Norman Daywalt Miller Jr., Deborah Cassie Kernan, Sherilee (Leesa) Van Zandt, Glenn Swan Sr.; and niece, Amberly Mariah Miller. Robert is survived by his sisters, Antoinette "Toni" LoMonaco and Lucille "Lulu" Wesley; nieces, Paula Bourdon, Michelle Partlow, Kayla Johnson, Amanda Pallones, Waverly Miller; nephews, Zeth Kernan, Jordan and Emily Kernan, Lincoln Kernan, Devin Van Zandt and Jedidiah Blayney.

A small family memorial will be forthcoming in Hawaii and Robert will be laid to rest alongside other family members at Angelus Memorial Park in Anchorage, near the old Miller family home.
