Robert Ross Brown III

Jul 29, 1988 -

Jun 15, 2025

Beloved father, son, brother, cousin, nephew and friend, passed on Father's Day, Sunday, June 15, 2025, at his home in Wasilla, Alaska, at the age of 35. He was born at St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno, Calif., and relocated to Alaska part-time when he was 6 years old. He was interested in people and had a wide circle of friends who he valued highly. He was an extroverted introvert with a deeply thoughtful side and an adventurous spirit.

Robert obtained his GED when he was 16 and, with a waiver, enlisted in the Army when he was 17. He served as a Combat Engineer, "poking at bombs with sticks" as he told his kids. He was proud to serve with the 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment. He spent time training, and received certification as a combat medic in Germany before being deployed to Iraq.

He was honorably discharged in 2008, drove oil tankers in Texas, returned to Alaska where he worked on the slope as an ice trucker among other things, bought a house and raised his children. He loved reading and fishing and was a gifted writer. According to his family, he made the best barbeque steak in Alaska. Robert was preceded in death by his father, Robert Ross Brown Jr.; and sister, Sarah Douts. He is survived by his partner, Ivy Elwood; children, Isabella Brown, Elliot Kapolchok, Gabrielle Settje, Morgan, Benjamin, Theodore and Meadow Brown, as well as a baby boy on the way; his mothers, Lee Ault and Sue Simpson; stepsister, Elizabeth Miranda; aunts and uncles, Julie and Bob Burton, Clark "Corky" Strubar, Marilyn Gerwitz, Nancy Sani; cousins, Kelly, Alexis, Jake, Mark, Lisa and Michael; and extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at First United Methodist Church, 2635 Old Knik Road in Wasilla, on June 29, 2025; more details to follow.
