Jun 9, 2025
Christina Lucile Cresap Diaz, known earlier in life by family and friends as "Chrissy," died at home, after a brief illness, in the early hours the morning of June 9, 2025.
Christina was born on May 11, 1966, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska, the first of three children born to Marcy and Tom Cresap. Tom would often say that she was their first child, who gave them their first grandchild, who subsequently gave them their first great-grandchild.
Christina grew up in the woods around the family home in Chugiak/Eagle River. She loved to run free and explore the woods and discover whatever kids find in the leaves, under rocks and in the wind.
She attended Birchwood ABC Elementary School, Gruening Middle School and Chugiak High School, where she excelled. She graduated from Chugiak High School in 1984, then attended Denver Institute of Technology to earn an associate's degree in electronics.
Christina was employed by Carr's Safeway in health foods in the '90s; then she started at Credit Union One, where she was employed from 2001 until the time of her death. Christina was a valued employee who eschewed offers of advancement to managerial positions, preferring a simple, enjoyable life.
She had a five-year relationship with Don Bennett and, in 1991, gave birth to a daughter, Victoria Ashley Bennett. Victoria was the light of Christina's life, and they had many adventures together.
In February 1994, Christina married Manny Diaz, who had a son, Adam. This family of four, enjoyed things like fishing and traveling to Manny's home country, the Philippines.
In 1997, Christina found herself single again, and in 2013, Victoria gave her a grandson, Tael Christopher Carbaugh, who became an important part of Christina's life by spending weekends and special occasions with her.
On Jan. 13, 2020, Christina lost her best friend and companion, Larry Berg, to a heart attack. They had spent 15 years together and had planned to marry in June 2020. The loss was devastating for Christina, and although the family rallied around her and she enjoyed family barbeques, playing in the pool in the sun and traveling to Hawaii, she never really recovered completely.
Christina is survived by her parents, Tom and Marcy Cresap; brothers, Sean (Tina) and Marcus; daughter, Victoria; son-in-law Travis; and their son, Tael; sister-in-law Christy Cresap and her two children, Hannah and Jay, of New York; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends.
A celebration of life is planned and will be announced later.
