Nov 3, 2024
David H. Behm, "Behmer," passed away Nov. 3, 2024, following a sudden illness. Dave was able to be home with his wife, surrounded by love and peace at his passing.
Dave was born in Portland, Ore., on Dec. 13, 1948, to parents Hubert and Yvonne Behm. He was the oldest of four children. Most of Dave's early childhood was spent outdoors fishing and hunting - this remained his main passion for his entire life - with many trips back to Minnesota to visit family.
In 1962, the family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, just in time to experience the Good Friday earthquake. After graduating from East High School in 1967, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War on the USS Ranger and the USS Coral Sea. His military service meant a great deal to Dave and he was proud to serve his country. He was also very active in the American Legion Post 18 Ninilchik after he retired.
Dave spent many years in Anchorage working for the Municipality and making lifelong friendships and relationships. He married his current wife Georgia in the late '90s. He started building a cabin overlooking the Ninilchik River that became a cherished family gathering spot through four generations of Behms. In 2010, Dave and Georgia retired to their cabin in Ninilchik after a very updated remodel. When he wasn't fishing or gardening, he spent time at the American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Shaw; sisters, Lynne (Sunny) Carpenter and Sherrill Behm; brother and his wife, Scott and Lori Behm; nieces, Katie Behm and Shelly Behm and their children and nephews Kevin (Casey) Carpenter and Christopher Behm; as well as numerous friends and family across the country.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Ninilchik on July 19, 2025, at the American Legion Post 18 at 2 p.m. Followed by a grill party at the cabin at 6 p.m.
