David Michael Abruzzino passed away unexpectedly at his home in Eagle River, Alaska, from a pulmonary embolism. He was 66 years old.

David was born in Buffalo, N.Y., to Dominic George and Sylvia Theresa Abruzzino (Paszkiewicz). He grew up in West Seneca, N.Y., and attended West Seneca West High. He lettered in swimming and his trophy is still on display to this day at the high school.

After graduation, in July 1976, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the Air Force and was first stationed at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho. On April 28, 1978, he came to Elmendorf AFB near Anchorage, Alaska, where he met his future wife, Linda Ann Neils. They married on Oct. 6, 1979, at the chapel on base. They had five children over the next 14 years, four girls and one boy in that order. He finally got his boy!

After separating from the Air Force in April 1982, David started his own landscaping business, Yukon Landscaping. In the mid-90s, he started working for the Municipality of Anchorage at the Hiland Landfill and retired, in 2022, from the Street Maintenance Department as a Heavy Equipment Operator.

David loved Alaska and he loved hunting, fishing, guns, beekeeping, baking pierogis, vegetable gardening, whiskey, telling "dad jokes," being with his grandkids and teaching them all the things that he loved. He was funny and charismatic. He dubbed himself the "cool grandpa." He was everybody's friend, and he is already deeply missed.

David is survived by his wife, Linda Ann Abruzzino; five children, Jody, Nicole, Stephanie, Joshua Abruzzino and Rachel Weight and husband Bryce Weight; grandkids, Monique and Simone Lowrance, and Finnegan, Seamus and Kinley Weight; father, Dominic Abruzzino; sister, Elizabeth Kusz and husband Donald Kusz; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Sylvia Abruzzino; maternal grandparents, Frank and Frances Paszkiewicz; and paternal grandparents, Pasquale Abruzzino and Carmela Zarket.

David's final resting place will be at Fort Richardson National Cemetery, where a portion of his ashes will be buried with honor on Aug. 8, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Aug. 10, 2025, from 2-5 p.m., at Odd Man Rush, 10930 Mausel Street in Eagle River.
