Dora Andrews
Aug 20, 1942 -
Feb 25, 2025
Dora passed peacefully at home on Feb. 25, 2025. Born around Aug. 20, 1942 - had to guess month and day because of no records - in Kipnuk, Alaska. Dora met Dick in Bethel, and they moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where they bought a tiny one-bedroom home. Dick worked on the house and expanded it during the years and they raised four children there .
They both enjoyed bingo and met many friends through it. Many commented that if you saw one, you would see the other. They also loved camping and fishing, and would spend all summer in Seward in a camper enjoying their later years together and making friends with the other fishermen off the beaches in Seward. Dora was an expert grass basket maker - one of her baskets is in a museum - and loved spending her time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She would enjoy telling of her time she spent with Dick and how they met, and who she greatly missed since his passing. She was smart, quick-witted and had a wonderful sense of humor despite having a rough start at a young age, losing her parents and spending time in the orphanage with her sister Helen.
Dora was a gifted storyteller and always liked to tell us about how it was growing up in the village, fish camps and orphanage. Being given a Russian last name and having her birthdate be guesswork was one of her many stories she like talking about. She will be greatly missed by many friends and family.
Dora was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy; sister, Helen Gigler; husband, Dick; son, Kenneth Andrews; and grandson, Timothy Andrews-Lee.
Services will be held on Aug. 30, 2025, at 1 p.m., at the Anchorage Moravian Church at 3512 Robin Street in Anchorage.
