Jun 6, 2020
Rory Elsdon passed away on June 6, 2020, in Surrey, British Columbia, of complications from juvenile diabetes. Rory was born in Kimberley, B.C., to Valerie and Garth Elsdon. His early years were spent in Saskatoon and Kelowna, Canada, where he was happy and active in many sports. Rory was a valuable member of his hockey and soccer teams, and he loved the skiing, golfing and biking experiences in Kelowna. Rory never let his diabetes slow him down. At 14 Rory and his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska, where he quickly made friends and began hockey and soccer again. His new passion soon became fishing, learning the art of fly-fishing from his Dad and enjoying great adventures and camaraderie with his brother and friends at the Kenai and Russian Rivers.
After graduating from Dimond High, Rory received his Electrician Certificate from AVTEC and worked various electrical jobs. In 2011, Rory moved to British Columbia and enjoyed many new friends and experiences. Rory always had close loving relationships and great friendships throughout his life. Rory will be remembered for his wonderful charm, ease of making friends, kindness, sense of humor, gentle soul, generous heart and most of all, his love for his family, especially his young daughters.
Rory leaves behind his daughters, Svavah Burke of Anchorage and Naomi Reitsman of Vancouver; his parents, Valerie Elsdon and Garth (Lynn) Elsdon; his brother, Liam Elsdon; Svavah's sister, Izzy Burke; and many aunts, uncles and cousins in Canada.
Rory was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents; Uncle Dennis Falck; and his dog Pacino. If so wished, donations could be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, JDRF.org, in Rory's memory. A celebration of Rory's life will be announced at a later date.
