Peter Faville Halverson, 89, of Chugiak, Alaska, passed away peacefully on May 12, 2026, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Peter was born on March 5, 1937, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Clarence Faville Halverson and Margaret Mae Curtis Halverson. In 1954, Peter embarked on a great adventure when he moved to Alaska with his family. Traveling in a converted school bus, they made the long journey north and eventually settled in Chugiak, where Peter would spend the rest of his life building both a home and a legacy.
Peter married his wife Darlene in 1958, building a home for them to start their life together. He served in the Army National Guard for eight years, while starting his own business, Halverson Construction, and devoted his life to building homes and apartment building throughout the Chugiak and Eagle River communities. Alongside his wife, Darlene, they owned and operated Aquila Apartments in Eagle River.
Peter was a proud member of the Carpenters Union 1281 and was honored with his 60-year membership pin in recognition of his dedication to the trade. He was an honorary member of the American Legion Post 33 where he spent many years of volunteer work. His service and commitment to the post was recognized with a plaque placed above the door reading "Pete's Place."
Family, craftsmanship and community were at the heart of Peter's life. In his younger years, he enjoyed many mornings playing cribbage with his dad over a cup of coffee. After a long day of work, he was always ready for a trip to the Kenai to fish for salmon. Peter had a lifelong interest in history, collecting coins and antique artifacts that connected him to the past.
A gifted builder, Peter's greatest passion was creating things with his hands. Much of the furniture in his home was built by him, and he especially enjoyed making special gifts for his grandchildren, from a dollhouse to a rocking horse and countless other treasured creations.
Peter will forever be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, willingness to help others and deep devotion to his family. He lived a life defined by hard work, integrity and kindness.
Peter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Darlene Halverson; daughter, Nancy Broach; grandson, Jacob Broach; granddaughter, Breanna Broach-Marquiss; great-grandsons, Alden and Liam Marquiss; and sister, Kathy Halverson.
Peter is preceded in death by his son, Michael Faville Halverson; parents, Clarence and Margaret Halverson; brother, Michael Paul Halverson; sisters, Robin Reid, Diana Nentwich and Margaret Sinnott; and son-in-law, Robert Broach.
A celebration of life will be held on June 27, 2026, from 3 p.m., at the American Legion Post #33, 21426 Old Glenn Highway in Chugiak. Peter will be laid to rest at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery beside his son Michael.
